Exchanges: panic buying
10/28/2011
After the Summit: buying panic on global stock exchanges! Stock market rallied on global stock exchanges. Banks participate with the average debt in Greece. Brilliant autumn rally continues. Panic buying at the Moscow stock exchange.

by Andreas Männicke
This was a historic night in Brussels: After the EU summit in Brussels 27 October, the world's stock markets reacted with a stock market rallied. Greece gets 50% of their debts if banks participate. It will put together an aid package worth 100 billion €. The banks have to increase its capital ratio to 9% and thus be recapitalized. It is a Europe-wide financial transaction tax to be introduced, remained open only when and in what amount. EFSF help in an emergency levered up to € 1 trillion to needy countries and banks. Hardly a representative of the people understood the - also poorly translated - right lever at the EU summit, to happiness. A partial failure can become a total failure. The bailout might fail. Then only can help the ECB with gold print.
So it should come in spite of the de facto bankruptcy of Greece no bank failures, which goes from the moment at least the market. This set of measures was enough to a true course on Thursday to trigger fireworks, especially among European banks. The courses of the German Bank AG and Commerzbank AG were down by as much as 16.7 and 15.8%. This seems the Risikoapettit investors gradually come back. But I also believe Gewinnmintnahmen fast again.
My strategy to buy with staggered Abstauberlimits in September, went on with it. I also had time to rally in the fall of brilliant potential EAST STOCK TRENDS (www.eaststock.de ) attention. Sales from panic buying panic was on Thursday.........

New Greek deal encourages investors

2011-OCT-27

euros “Risk” assets such as commodities and equities have rallied hard on the news that EU leaders have reached agreement on a plan to deal with Greece’s debt crisis. The euro has also risen sharply against the US dollar in response, with the Dollar Index (USDX) now back below 76. However, gold and silver prices have pulled back from the highs they reached yesterday.
The new plan for Greece calls for 50% losses on Greek government bonds held in private hands. Following adjustments to the value of government bonds they hold, large banks are also expected to maintain core “Tier 1” capital ratios of 9%. Leading banks in 13 countries have been given a deadline of June 12 next year to come up with an additional €106.4 billion of Tier 1 capital. .......

Analysis: Pockets of debt illiquidity show rising bank fears

Analysis: Pockets of debt illiquidity show rising bank fears

Analysis: Pockets of debt illiquidity show rising bank fears
Thursday, 01 September 2011 00:00

Pockets of the fixed income and money markets are starting to reflect concern that recent volatility will extend past August, and that growing risk aversion may again roil banks and funding markets.

One sign of worry is the increasing reluctance of banks to use their balance sheets to facilitate trades, which has hit sectors from corporate bonds to the short-term repurchase market, where there is $1.6 trillion in triparty loans.
For example, banks have reduced activity in the intra-dealer Treasury repurchase agreement market by 63 percent since the end of June, according to Barclays Capital.
To some, this spreading risk aversion suggests that an autumn of troubling headlines could again spark a freeze like the 2008 crisis. There is no shortage of potential flash points, from Europe's debt crisis to a weak economy.
"I think the markets are going to get very stressed," said Abdullah Karatash, head of fixed income credit trading at Natixis in New York.
"All this uncertainty could just lead to a big leg lower in stocks and when that happens bank financial stocks are going to lead the way lower," he said. "It's gonna hurt their balance sheet and that's going to further hurt the liquidity picture."
Large money funds have been pulling back on making unsecured loans to European banks, and instead moving to secured transactions. This has left the banks scrambling for dollar-based funding and, in one rare case, led a bank to tap a liquidity line at the European Central Bank.
Three-month interbank dollar lending rates also rose again on Tuesday to their highest in over a year.
In some recent cases illiquidity in the corporate debt market has also led investors to credit default swaps for protection as selling the bonds was too costly.
CREDIT PULLBACK
Volatility, if it persists, may again threaten bank funding, which is highly vulnerable to investor confidence.....

Gold surge draws prospectors, thieves worldwide

Gold surge draws prospectors, thieves worldwide

Thursday, 01 September 2011 00:00

It has been called the saint-seducing metal, with good reason. As the price of gold rests near record highs, people from Spokane to Bangkok are selling jewelry or buying bullion,

some are giving up steady jobs to take to panning while theft of gold chains and watches is on the rise worldwide.
"Panning for gold is becoming a real family affair, more popular now because of the gold price," says Cordell Kent, who sells do-it-yourself mining equipment in the 19th century Australian gold rush town of Ballarat.
"Some people I know are making hundreds, even thousands of dollars on the weekends."
Locals say rising prices and heavy rain earlier this year are leading to a surge in amateur prospectors, looking for flakes of gold washing up on river-beds.
"We're seeing a whole new gold rush now around Ballarat," Kent says.
Spot gold sells now for $1,830 an ounce, up nearly a third this year. With currencies and stocks faltering and prices of other commodities held back by slowing economic growth, the frenzy for gold has gone global.
Many are cashing in on the gold they have at home -- or on gold teeth -- although the trend is slowing in the belief prices will rise further.
"The most disgusting thing I had to deal with was a rotten tooth with a gold crown from a customer's grandmother who died," said Munehiro Otsuki, the manager of a gold store in the Shinjuku district of western Tokyo.

THE MARC FABER BLOG: Long-term U.S. Treasuries are of no value

Long-term U.S. Treasuries are of no value

Marc Faber : Gold is likely to correct, possibly by $100 or $150, but I continue to recommend gradual accumulation. As long as the trio of Obama, [U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner] and Bernanke are in power, gold is destined to move higher. Long-term U.S. Treasuries are of no value. They will default by paying interest in a worthless currency. - in Baron's Blog

Talking Ourselves Into Recession: Najarian - finance.yahoo.com/blogs/breakou

We Are Talking Ourselves Into Recession: Najarian

By Jeff Macke | Breakout

This was supposed to be a subdued week. That was the working plan amongst trader types. Today a huge wrench was thrown into that plan when renewed fears of European bank contagion and more weak US economic data sent the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 3.7% to 10,991, the S&P 500 down 4.5% to 1,141, and the Nasdaq down 5.2% to 2,380.
At this point both the selling and lunacy are playing off one another, each exacerbating the other. Markets sell off, then politicians come up with some idea to help; like several EU nations banning short-selling. And the markets sell-off again. Then another European plan to comes to fruition: Let's implement a financial transaction tax. Lather, rinse, and repeat until we all panic.
"We're talking ourselves into a recession," says Jon Najarian, co-founder of OptionMonster.com. Consumer confidence is at 31-year lows and periods like the last 3-weeks only make matters worse. There are even fewer people who need convincing that the recession is already here.

Dollar Declines Ahead Of Inflation Data - asia.advfn.com/forex/news

Dollar Declines Ahead Of Inflation Data

20:27, 17th August 2011

(RTTNews) - The dollar remained under pressure versus other major currencies Wednesday morning, dropping to its lowest since July versus the euro.
Risk appetite was picking up a bit ahead of pivotal U.S. inflation data, weighing on the dollar.
The Labor Department will release data on the July producer price index at 8:30 a.m. ET. July PPI is forecast to show a 0.1 percent rise after a 0.4 percent decline in June. Core PPI, which strips out food and energy costs, is forecast to show a 0.2 percent increase.
The buck has tumbled versus the euro despite concerns about the euro zone debt crisis. Yesterday's meeting of French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel failed to produce a coherent plan to backstop their debt-ridden neighbors.
However, the leaders shored up their defense of the euro.
"We want to express our absolute will to defend the euro and assume Germany and France's particular responsibilities in Europe and to have on all of these subjects a complete unity of views," said Sarkozy.
The buck dropped to $1.4505 versus the euro, and slid to a 2-month low of $1.6531 against the sterling.

Swiss franc continues remorseless climb - www.sharecast.com

Swiss franc continues remorseless climb

By Michael Millar

Wed 17 Aug 201

LONDON (SHARECAST) - The Swiss National Bank (SNB) has again tried - and failed - to push down the value of the Swiss franc, which it says is "massively overvalued".

It increased bank sight deposits from CHF120bn to CHF200bn, significantly increasing the money supply and placing further downward pressure on interest rates.

Sight deposits are funds which can be transferred immediately and without restriction to another account or which can be converted into cash.

However, the central bank refrained from either pegging the currency to the euro or adopting a target, as had been expected.

The franc climbed 1.2% against the dollar and 0.7% versus the euro.
