Wikiout! English Wikipedia anti-SOPA blackout

The world's most popular online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, is going on strike on Wednesday. The "knowledge blackout" is aimed at protecting the Internet - and the website's very existence -- from online censorship.
The Wikipedia community and the Wikimedia foundation decided on a global blackout of the English version of the website for 24 hours starting at 05:00UTC on January 18.

Positive carry is a profitable difference between the income from an investment (which exceeds) the cost financing the investment.
The importance of carry varies. Some strategies rely on positive carry to make a profit, examples of this include both covered anduncovered interest arbitrage. Carry provides no significant benefit for many strategies is a cost of many others: many strategies are used expecting negative carry.
There are many asset classes where carry may be positive or negative depending on circumstances. Examples include property (carry depends on interest rates and rental yields), investments in bonds funded by borrowing (cost of borrowing versus the coupon paid by the bonds).
Strategies that rely on positive carry to make a profit include both true arbitrage and arbitrage like strategies. In some cases, as with covered and uncovered interest arbitrage, there are both hedgedand unhedged ways of exploiting the same mispricing. Many of the arbitrage like strategies are also called arbitrage — with a qualifier that makes it clear that they are not really arbitrage.

Condition in which the cost of financing an investment is less than the return obtained from it. This investment is worth maintaining a position in. opposite of negative carry.

POSITIVE CARRY

Where the financing cost of a position is lower than the income received from it. Positive carry trades are often made in the currency market where the interest received by investors in one currency is higher than what has to be paid to borrow in another. Negative carry is when it costs more to finance a position than it earns.
