Scandal hit Olympus' shares plunge further

Euronews | Nov 9, 2011
http://www.euronews.net/ Shares of Japanese camera maker Olympus continue to plunge as more details emerge of a financial scandal dating back 20 years. The stock fell by nearly half in just two days this week.

It has now been revealed that Olympus lost huge amounts through investments over a two decade period. One report from the Nikkei news agency said it involves more than 700 million euros worth.

It then covered up those losses by appearing to pay extremely high advisory fees when it took over other companies.

EU dismisses rumours of 'two-tier eurozone'

Euronews | Nov 10, 2011
http://www.euronews.net/ German Chancellor Angela Merkel and officials from France and the EU have denied planning to create a two-tier eurozone, separating the stronger economies from those seen as weak.

Speculation grew after a news agency reported informal talks on the subject had taken place between the two countries. President of Euro Group Jean-Claude Juncker was scathing of the idea: "I'm allergic to such stupidities that are conveyed by some and that aim to put divisions within the euro. The euro is a solid group," he said.

We have been in or associated with gold and silver related assets and commodities for well over 50 years and we find we are not convinced that the failure of MF Global was just that, a failure.
John Corzine’s background makes us wonder if something else may have been afoot. He had been a former CO-chief operating officer of Goldman Sachs, a high-level, political operator and a Senator and governor from New Jersey. From our viewpoint this is cause for questioning.
In 2005 Man acquired Refco, which had failed. That became MF Global. The forced takeover worked out well.
This time it worked out differently. There was liquidation only and all MF Global employees were dismissed and prohibited from functioning. This meant clients were frozen in their accounts, something that heretofore had never happened previously.........

Gold rebuilds the wall of worry

11/10/2011 2:22:55 PM | Clif Droke

The mainstream press has been asleep on the metal since the bottom of the summer decline, which improves gold's recovery prospects.
Gold has come into its own since October as traders continue to hang on every word coming out of Europe. Investors have breathed a collective sign of relief in recent days as Europe’s financial ministers plan to unveil a new rescue fund next month. In the meanwhile, Italy and Greece are left to deal with their own debt crises until then. Greece must provide written acceptance of bailout terms before it receives its next 8 billion euro loan installment.
European officials are also consulting with credit ratings agencies over options for increasing the rescue fund’s 440 billion euro guarantee into as much as 1 trillion euros. “In the end,” wrote the Wall Street Cheat Sheet, “many investors believe Europe will resort to money printing to ‘solve’ the sovereign debt crisis.” As we’ve discussed in recent reports, gold therefore has a dual impetus to propel its recovery: fear of the unknown in regard to the euro zone crisis and loose central bank monetary policy in response to the crisis..........
